Reflection:
This was the first time I had organized a video critique this
way. I felt that standing up there and having me point out
the strengths of the films and how they relate to what we
have been learning, did not maximize their own learning. I
wanted to see what they learned and make the critique a group
experience. I used the rubrics
for the assignment as “ballots” and they worked
in groups to choose the best films that represented each area
of the assignment. The results were great and the feedback
was very enthusiastic. I heard, “why don’t we
always do it this way?” It was so interesting to me
to hear their critique on the films and justifications. It
helped with my final grading for the assignment and showed
them that their opinions matter. I also passed out an anonymous
survey with some general questions about the unit. The responses
were very interesting. Some films were more successful than
others, take
a look….
